Spire
to Build PV Manufacturing Line in Bedford,
MA
Spire Corporation has announced that it will establish
photovoltaic module manufacturing in Bedford,
Massachusetts to meet the
growing demand for customized modules for the Building Integrated
Photovoltaics (BIPV) market. The production line will have an annual
capacity of approximately five megawatts or enough to power 3,000 homes.

Clean Energy Fund Prepares $21 Million Program
Program to Support On-site Renewable Energy
Installations
The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund (CCEF) has announced
a new, $21 million program to support on-site renewable generation at commercial,
industrial and institutional facilities. The On-site Renewable Distributed
Generation Program is a flexible, financial support program designed to
encourage businesses, factories, hospitals, universities and other users to
install equipment that produces electricity using renewable technologies
such as fuel cells and solar photovoltaic systems.
The Program Opportunity will be available
for public comment through November 2, 2005. CCEF has scheduled an
information session at 1:30 p.m. on November 2nd at the Crown Plaza
in Cromwell, CT, to receive direct public feedback on
the program.
Stonyfield
Farms Opens NH's Largest Solar Array
Project Partners Include Solar Works
New
Hampshire's largest solar
power array has been installed atop Stonyfield Farm's 120,000 square-foot
organic yogurt facility in Londonderry.
The 5,000 square-foot array will generate approximately 50 kilowatts. The
system was installed by SEBANE member Solar Works.
Shell
Solar and Spire Partner on CT Commercial Project
The 16.5kw Facility is One of CT's Largest
Shell Solar Industries and Spire Corporation have collaborated
to design and install a 16.5 kilowatt photovoltaic system at the offices of
Centerbrook Architects and Planners, LLC in Centerbrook, Connecticut.
The PV system, utilizing Shell Solar Type SQ 165-PC modules, was designed
by Spire's systems group. The system is designed to reduce energy costs of
the facility, a nineteenth-century factory building, and to demonstrate the
feasibility of the technology to Centerbrook's clients.
Schott
Solar Powers NJ Water Plant
The largest
ground-mounted solar system east of the Rockies has been installed at the
New Jersey American Water facility in Franklin Township.
The 502 kilowatt system uses over 2,800 solar panels provided by Schott
Solar.
Spire
to Provide PV Production Line for Korean Firm
Spire Corporation announced that it has executed a contract
with Unison Co., Ltd. of Chonan-City,
Korea to
provide an advanced photovoltaic module production line. The line will be
capable of producing over 15 megawatt per year.
Schott
Will Take Over RWE's Share of Joint Venture
Effective October 1, Schott AG acquired the 50 percent share
that RWE Solutions AG holds in the joint venture RWE Schott Solar. The move
means that Schott will become the sole shareholder in the joint venture,
first formed in 2002. The company will conduct business under its new name,
Schott Solar, Inc.
Schott Solar will operate the current RWE
Schott Solar manufacturing facility in Billerica,
Massachusetts and a sales office in Rocklin, California
in addition to the existing international facilities.
Northern
Power Names New President
Distributed Energy Systems Corp. has announced the
promotion of Darren Jamison to president of its
VT-based Northern Power Systems subsidiary. Mr. Jamison had served as chief
operating officer of Northern, which provides reliable power systems,
services and products to commercial, industrial, government, utility, and
military customers. In his new role, Mr. Jamison succeeds Clint
"Jito" Coleman, who will assume responsibility for corporate
development and strategic industry relationships as executive vice president
of the DESC parent company.
California Approves SatCon
Technology and Magnetek Inverters
During the past
quarter, Magnetek and SatCon Technolgies each had new invertor products
approved by the California Energy Commission (CEC). SatCon's Powergate(tm)
AE-PV utility-grade product line and Magetek's VDC Utility Interactive
systems won the designation. For consumers to qualify for incentives under
the California Emerging Renewables Program, the installed measures must use
products approved by the CEC.

Principals Win Awards
Konarka Technologies co-founder and chief scientist, Dr. Alan
Heeger, is a recipient of the 2005 POPULAR MECHANICS Breakthrough Award for
his work with polymer photovoltaics. POPULAR MECHANICS established the
Breakthrough Awards to recognize 10 individuals and teams who are helping
to improve lives and expand possibilities in the realms of science,
technology and exploration, as well as 10 consumer products that represent
milestones in design and engineering.
Howard Berke, Konarka’s co-founder,
chairman and chief executive officer, was named to the 2005 All-Stars as
selected by Mass High Tech, the journal of New England
technology. Now in its tenth year, the annual Mass High Tech All-Stars
