SEBANE Welcomes Becky Gallagher of SunPower and Mark Sylvia of BlueWave to Board of Directors
SEBANE is pleased to announce the addition of Rebecca Gallagher, SunPower's Senior Analyst for Strategy and Business Development in the Northeast, to its Board of Directors for the 2018-2019 year. Two of our long-standing Directors, Bill Stillinger and Tom Thompson, are departing the Board this year after their 15 and five years of service, respectively. We owe a multitude of thanks to Mr. Stillinger and Mr. Thompson, both past Board Presidents, for their dedication to SEBANE over the years, and wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavors. We are looking forward to working with them in the future as longstanding SEBANE members.
SEBANE is also proud to have elected Mark Sylvia, Managing Director of People and Civic Engagement at BlueWave Solar, to rejoin the Board. Mr. Sylvia was appointed to SEBANE in 2017 and will continue with us and will now serve a three-year term alongside Ms. Gallagher. He has done a fantastic job leading the charge at SEBANE, and looks forward to maintaining solar's forward progress in the year ahead. SEBANE is excited to continue working with Mr. Sylvia and to welcome Ms. Gallagher aboard.
SunPower is a panel manufacturer, developer, financer, EPC and O&M provider serving residential and commercial markets across the U.S. and internationally with over 9GW installed. Last summer, Ms. Gallagher moved from New York City to Boston to jumpstart SunPower’s New England presence and lead their business development efforts here. The Boston office is now SunPower’s center for project development in the Northeast, and together with their policy team Ms. Gallagher leads interventions for the SMART incentive program and other market and policy initiatives. Her first year running analytics for dozens of commercial projects as small as 300kW "helps me to ground my strategic work in what’s really possible at the project level," she says.
Prior to working at SunPower, Ms. Gallagher ran communications for the board-directed Community Preservation Coalition, provided technical assistance to volunteer Community Preservation Act committees across the Commonwealth and supported their near-constant presence at the State House. She studied at Tufts for her undergraduate B.S., and received MBA and Master of Environmental Management degrees from Yale in 2016 where she focused on renewable energy. Ms. Gallagher is looking very forward to working on developing the materials, partnerships, opportunities and growth in the solar energy economy that SEBANE members count on.
Mr. Sylvia joined BlueWave as a Managing Director in January 2015 to help the company expand its solar development portfolio nationally and internationally. He has been responsible for Business Development activities and now leads External Affairs for the firm which includes Public Relations, Government/Policy Affairs, Communications, Community Affairs and Corporate Giving/Social Impacts. Mr. Sylvia participates on the Northeast Clean Energy Council’s Policy Committee and Solar Working Group and was recently elected to the New York Solar Energy Industry Association’s (NYSEIA) Board of Directors.
Mr. Sylvia is a former senior energy official in the Patrick Administration having served as the first Green Communities Division Director as well as Department of Energy Resources Commissioner and most recently as Undersecretary for Energy. He and his team have implemented nation-leading policies, leading to the number-one ranking in energy efficiency four years in a row and surpassing the Governor’s ambitious goal of developing 250 megawatts of solar energy by 2017 four years early. Under Mr. Sylvia’s leadership, DOER launched innovative programs to support energy resiliency, electric vehicle adoption, building labeling and renewable thermal technologies. There are now 155 cities and towns that have been designated as Green Communities, representing more than half of the Commonwealth’s population. During his tenure, Mr. Sylvia chaired the Energy Facilities Sighting Board and served on the National Association of State Energy Officials, Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and Massachusetts Clean Energy Center boards.
SEBANE will be officially acknowledging Ms. Gallagher and Mr. Sylvia, as well as the esteemed service of Mr. Stillinger and Mr. Thompson, at its upcoming Summer Solstice Celebration.
