The 2017 National Electric Code Training, Best Practices, And PV And The Massachusetts Firecode

FEBRUARY 6, 2017

Hosted by SEBANE and CED Greentech

On Friday, January 27, 2017, over 270 solar installers, electricians, fire and electrical inspectors, and other solar professionals gathered with industry experts Bill Brooks, Matt Piantedosi, and Jen Hoyt for a comprehensive and informative day on improving the safety of PV systems.  Matt Piantedosi, of The Cadmus Group,  began the day with an overview of PV best practices and NEC compliance, and an analysis of how well solar installers are currently doing in the field based on hundreds of inspections. Bill Brooks, of Brooks Engineering, then took a deeper dive into the 2017 National Electric Code,  changes to Articles 690 and 705, including Rapid Shutdown, and the implications of the new code for solar PV systems.  Jen Hoyt, from the Office of the MA State Fire Marshal, followed with a discussion of first responder safety and PV rooftop installation, and the proposed changes to the Massachusetts Fire Code regarding rooftop setbacks for PV systems.  The day concluded with a panel discussion between our three speakers and a very engaged audience.  Our sincere thanks go to CED Greentech for their considerable effort in transforming their new warehouse space into a comfortable and inviting meeting venue, and to our sponsors at LG, Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (Mass CEC), IronRidge, and SolarEdge for their generous sponsorship.
